Friday, December 7:

Today was the last day of class. We ran a 5k around grounds and I finished with a time of about 23:30. That's the best I've ever run for 3.1 miles. I really enjoyed this semester and am going to miss this class.

Wednesday, December 5, 2012

Wednesday, December 5:

Today we wrote our final in class and then did a scavenger hunt around grounds. Maddie and I came SO close to winning :(

Tuesday, December 4:

Today I ran with my friend on our usual loop and it took us about 26 minutes. It was a bit more of a struggle than usual.

Monday, December 3, 2012

Monday, December 3:

Today in class we learned how to race walk! My shins were dying at the end of class but I really enjoyed learning how to do it!

Sunday, December 2:

Tonight I went for a night run with my friend. We ran about 3-3.5 miles in 27 minutes.

Friday, November 30, 2012

Friday, November 30:

Today we ran around grounds for 35 minutes. My group went past the law school and back to Rugby around to Mem gym.

Wednesday, November 28, 2012

Wednesday, November 28:

Today we ran the partner relays around nameless again. We did 12 laps each and it took Maddie and I 22:02. I've also been doing this ab workout that is really good! core 300 challenge

Tuesday, November 27, 2012

Tuesday, November 27:

Today I ran the Preston Park route with my friend. I mapped it on google and it's 4.4 about miles from my dorm round trip. It was a good run, just a little chilly and rainy! I also went to a spin class at the AFC, which was fun but hard!

Monday, November 26, 2012

Monday, November 26:

Today we did the run to the park on Preston again. We added on a little so it was about 3.5 miles and my group ran it in about 24 minutes.

Thursday, November 22, 2012

Thursay, November 22:

This morning my sister and I ran the turkey trot! I've volunteered and passed out water with my track team previous years, but it was my first time actually running this race and I really enjoyed it. It was a 10k, so 6.2 miles, and I ran it in 46:41. I got 4th in my age group and was 24 seconds from 3rd place and getting a trophy! I was surprised with how fast my pace was. It felt a lot easier running in Virginia Beach because it is a lot flatter here. I didn't realize how much the hills in Charlottesville really help with speed and endurance.
(can I use this to count for one of my absences?)

Monday, November 19, 2012

Monday, November 19:

Today was the last teaching day. Caroline taught us about jump roping for cardio, I taught a drill we used to do for field hockey, and Maddie taught a great rain day workout. I thought today was a really good day. Those mountain climbers and burpees we did were definitely a good challenge.

Friday, November 16, 2012

Wednesday, November 14, 2012

Wednesday, November 14:

Today was the second teaching day. It was another fun one! We did some core training, learned about running form, learned some good dynamic stretches, and practiced keeping our arms back, shoulders down, and hands relaxed.

Monday, November 12, 2012

Monday, November 12:

Today we began the teaching days. Naz and Mark taught us some new stretches and how to play "Naz ball". Then Megan and Patrick made up a scavenger hunt that was really creative and fun!

Friday, November 9, 2012

Friday, November 9:

I ran to and from class today, which added about an extra almost 2 miles, so about 14 minutes. In class we ran around nameless and did 2 sets of 4x1 minute hard, 1 minute easy. Afterwards, we went for a 8 minute cool down down Lewis Mtn Rd.

Thursday, November 9:

I went for a night run tonight around 11:30 pm. I ran with one of my friends and we ran for about 30 minutes.

Wednesday, November 7, 2012

Wednesday, November 7:

Today we ran to the track and did 3 2 minute hard, 2 minute easy tape runs. Mine were a bit slower, but I beat my tape each time and my third one was as fast as mine the last time we did this.

Tuesday, November 6:

Today I ran about 27 minutes around grounds with one of my friends and then went to the gym after. My legs are so sore from lunges and kettle bell swings.

Monday, November 5, 2012

Monday, November 5:

This morning we ran a new 3 mile loop. i really liked the route. It took us down Rugby Rd to Washington Park. It took my group about 27 minutes. My glutes and quads were sore because I did lunges and kettle bell swings this weekend and it just hit me today.

Sunday, November 4, 2012

Saturday, November 3:

Today I ran about 3-4 miles with my friends. It was a very leisurely run and took us 30 minutes.

Friday, November 2, 2012

Friday, November 2:

I was not in class this morning. I did have field hockey practice though, so I still ran.

Wednesday, October 31, 2012

Wednesday, October 31:

Happy Halloween! Today we ran the 2 mile loop that we ran in the beginning of the semester. We ran to Lambeth to warm up and then ran the rest of the mile and a half loop down Gordon, to 14th, and down the corner back to Mem gym. It took my group 16:22.

Friday, October 26, 2012

Friday, October 26:

Today we ran a circle run. It was about a 3.3 mile "Greek Loop" around Rugby Rd, the corner, Grady, and Gordon. It took my group about 28 minutes.

Wednesday, October 24, 2012

Wednesday, October 24:

Today we did a distance run where we followed the written instructions backwards. As if following the directions forwards didn't make you think, today we really had to use our heads. But we didn't get lost this time! The run today took me about 23 minutes and then I ran back to my dorm.

Tuesday, October 23:

Today I ran the 4 mile loop I created with one of my friends, Matt. We went at an easy pace and it took us around 33 minutes.

Monday, October 22, 2012

Monday, October 22:

This morning we ran to the track and did a timed mile. My mile time was 6:16, which I didn't think was too bad seeing as I haven't run a timed mile in forever. It was so cold this morning too! My arms and face was numb at the end of the run.

Friday, October 19, 2012

Friday, October 19:

Today we ran out and back tempo runs. We ran out 5 minutes and then back. We did 2 and both times I got back around 9:45 so I didn't pace my tempo as well as I should have.

Monday, October 15, 2012

Monday, October 15:

This morning we were supposed to run a new 3 mile loop but we got a little turned around. We ended up improvising and I think we ran closer to 3.5 or 4 miles, it took us about 30-32  minutes. I kind of liked trying to follow the written directions though, it made us have to think more while we were running.

Sunday, October 14:

Today I ran 6 miles. I ran up to the intersection of Hydraulic way and Seminole where my dad is building a restaurant. It was kind of a boring run because it was basically a straight run down the same road, out 3 miles and back. But it felt good getting more mileage in.

Friday, October 12, 2012

Friday, October 12:

Today we did a partner relay around nameless field. I really enjoyed this because I love relays! We each ran 10 laps and our rest/recovery was when our partner was running. It was also fun to match our partners (: Maddie and I had a bit of an unfair advantage since we live in the same suite though.

Wednesday, October 10, 2012

Wednesday, October 10:

Today we ran the 3 mile OHill/ McCormick observatory loop that was ran last Friday. It was a speed play run (fartlek) and we decided to take the route backwards so the hill wouldn't be as killer. I actually really enjoyed this run. We got 10 sprints in and it took us 26 minutes. Running the course backwards made the balance between hills and recovery perfect. I ran back to my dorm after to add on a little mileage.

Tuesday, October 9:

This morning I ran 7 miles at Seashore. My dad biked while I ran and it took me 54 minutes. The weather was over cast again and it was sprinkling, but I ran down main trail so I was covered by trees for most of the run. Honestly, this was one of the best runs I have ever had. Definitely top 5 runs of my running career. I just felt so good. My average mile pace was 7:39 per mile, which I have never done before, especially for 7 miles. I guess the hills in Charlottesville must be helping! I was so muddy after the run, but it was definitely worth it! I'm going to miss Seashore.

Monday, October 8:

I went home for fall break so this morning I woke up and went for a run at First Landing State Park in Virginia Beach, better known as Seashore to us. This is where I used to always run and I've missed it. The park has so many great trails, some of which you get to run on the beach along the bay. I ran the trail we call Lollipop today, which is 5 miles and it took me 40 minutes. It was a little over cast and drizzly but it was so nice to be back running at Seashore!

Friday, October 5, 2012

Friday, October 5:

This morning we did a circle run. It was a three mile loop that started at Memorial gym, we then ran down Lewis Mountain to Alderman and then back behind OHill up to the McCormick Hil Observatory. The hill up to the observatory was ridiculously steep. Once we got up the hill, going down was easy though. The run took my group about 28:12.

Thursday, October 4:

Today I ran the loop I made up last week again. It was so gorgeous outside and I ran it in about 30:23.

Wednesday, October 3, 2012

Wednesday, October 3:

This morning we ran a warm-up sidewalk loop and then ran 4 out and backs. The out and backs today were 2:30 out and 2:30 back. I never realized until today that to hit "bingo" you had to make it back at the exact time, I always thought you just couldn't be slower. I feel like I have been lying to myself this whole time now! But after I learned that today, I made the last 2 "bingo"s. Then I ran back to my dorm. I think I am going to start running more because my mileage is a lot less than I am used to right now and I feel like I am getting fat and losing some of my endurance/stamina.

Monday, October 1, 2012

Monday, October 1:

This morning we ran to the UVA track and did tape sprints. We ran 4 2 minute sprints with 2 minute recovery after. My first tape was placed a little past the hundred. my second tape was about a step past it because i didn't pick up my pace much. My third tape was about 20 feet ahead and my fourth tape was past the 200m line. I really enjoyed this workout because I use to race in the 800m in high school track and did workouts like this all the time.

Friday, September 28, 2012

Friday, September 28:

This morning we ran a loop to the track to check it out for Monday and then ran to Massie and down Emmett back to Memorial gym and did a side walk loop. It took us about 25 minutes and was a pretty good run.

Thursday, September 27, 2012

Thursday, September 27:

This morning I decided to get creative and I mapped out a run using google maps. I combined the Law School loop we've been doing lately with a little bit from Lambeth to Rugby Road. It came out to be around 4 miles long. I ran it in 30:52 and felt great! I really enjoyed this run and am excited to keep trying out new ones!

Here's the route I ran this morning:

Wednesday, September 26, 2012

Wednesday, September 26:

This morning warmed up to Lambeth and then we ran a fartlek 2.5 mile loop around the law school. My group did about 12 intervals and we ran the total loop in about 20 minutes.

Monday, September 24, 2012

Monday, September 24:

This morning we warmed up to the lawn and then ran 4 intervals on the lawn. We started at the brick pathway in the middle and then sprinted for 1:30 toward the statue of Homer and then back up the lawn. I was able to make it back to the hill right before the Rotunda steps by 1:30 every time. On the last interval, however, we had to run around the lawn because the rope guards were complaining. Then we ran a cool down down McCormick road and through the Quad back to Memorial gym and around Nameless field. I ended up running back to my dorm after class to add on a little extra mileage.

Friday, September 21, 2012

Friday, September 21:

This morning we warmed up to Lambeth and then ran a new 2.5 mile loop behind JPJ past the law school. My group ran it in 21:35. I think this was my favorite run so far. When we got back to Memorial gym we ran 5 hills, which was a little scary because the grass was so wet and the hills were so steep!

Wednesday, September 19, 2012

Wednesday, September 19:

This morning we ran a warm-up loop around Nameless and then ran 4 out-and-backs. This time we went the reverse way around Nameless field, so we took a left out of Memorial gym. We ran out 1:30 and I was able to make it to the same place I turned around last time going the opposite direction, which I thought was pretty cool. I did much better pacing myself this time because I made it back at 2:56 every time so I hit "bingo" all 4 times today.

Monday, September 17, 2012

Monday, September 17:

Running on only 3 hours of sleep last night, this morning's run was actually really good. We warmed up to Lambeth and then ran 2 miles in 17:43. After the run we went back in the gym and did regular planks, forward-and-back planks, right and left side planks, and right and left side dip planks. I also had field hockey practice tonight.

Friday, September 14, 2012

Friday, September 14:

Today we did out and backs. We ran 1:30 out around Nameless field and then back to Memorial gym. Each time I made it to the last streetlight on Emmett and I made it back in 1:30 or less 3 out of the 4 times. I missed the first time because my pace on the way back was slower and I didn't realized I had slowed down.

Wednesday, September 12, 2012

Wednesday, September 12:

This morning we did our warm-up run to Lambeth, stretched, and then ran a 2.5 mile loop around grounds. I think this loop was my favorite so far. My group ran it in 20:45 so we were around a solid 8 minute mile pace. It felt really good!

Monday, September 10, 2012

Monday, September 10:

Today we ran a 2 mile fartlek around grounds. My group ran it in 17:47 and got 8 intervals in. Tonight I had my first official club field hockey practice, which was fun! I can't wait or this season!

Friday, September 7, 2012

Friday, September 7:

This morning we ran to the lawn as our warm-up and then ran interval sprints down the lawn. My sprints to the statue were all around 56 seconds, with about 1:13 to jog back. I thought this was a really good workout! After class I ran back to my dorm which took me 6:58. So much faster than actually walking back...haha.

Wednesday, September 5, 2012

Wednesday, September 5:

This morning we ran a 2 mile loop around grounds and my group added on a lap around nameless. We ran it in 20:08 and it felt like our best run yet! I also had the last of the club field hockey tryouts tonight and we did some fitness and small scrimmages. I just got the email saying I made the team so now I am SUPER excited!

Tuesday, September 4:

Tonight I had field hockey tryouts from 8:45-10:45pm. They went pretty well. It rained most of the time which made it cooler. My calves are going to be sore tomorrow.

Monday, September 3, 2012

Monday, September 3:

This morning we ran a loop down Mccormick and around the lawn that was about 1.5 miles and then my group added the nameless field loop also. It took us 15:12 and it felt really good. Afterwards we did drills in the grass. Then tonight I had my first club field hockey tryout from 7-8:30pm at Carr's field. It think it went pretty well, I'm excited for the rest of the week now!

Friday, August 31, 2012

Friday, August 31:

This morning in class we ran to Lambeth to warm-up and then ran a 2 mile loop. My time was 16:40 and I had some major side-stitches. Later on in the afternoon I walked to the field on Rugby Road with my friend and we played field hockey for a little while to get ready for club tryouts next week.

Thursday, August 30, 2012

Thursday, August 30:

This morning I went to the AFC, did a bit of weightlifting and worked out on the stair-master for 21 minutes. I can't wait to be in shape again!

Wednesday, August 29, 2012

Wednesday, August 29:

Today was the first day of my running for exercise class. We ran the warm-up loop, stretched and met our classmates, and then ran the loop again, although it was timed this time. I ran it in 2:42. I'm feeling a bit out of shape so I'm looking forward to this class!
